ARI is the most flexible EU residency path in 2026 - fund-based, low physical presence, and a 5-year route to citizenship. We'll show you the real timeline, real costs, and real risks before you commit.
Portugal Golden Visa Overview
Portugal's Golden Visa (ARI - Autorização de Residência para Atividade de Investimento) was restructured in October 2023. Real estate is gone. What remains is arguably stronger: the CMVM-regulated venture capital fund route - recoverable capital, professionally managed, with the same minimal stay requirement and the same 5-year path to citizenship. This is the route we advise on.
For families seeking EU optionality without uprooting their current life, ARI remains the clearest fit in 2026. But the new tax regime (FICI replaces NHR), the proposed citizenship timeline change, and AIMA's processing backlog all need careful navigation. That's where independent advisory matters.
Portugal Golden Visa Investment Route
Since the 2023 restructuring, ROW Immigration advises clients exclusively on the CMVM-regulated venture capital fund route - the most reliable, recoverable, and professionally managed path to Portuguese residency.
Min Investment
€500,000
Subscribe to a CMVM-registered Portuguese venture capital fund (≥60% allocation to Portugal-HQ companies) with a 5-year minimum maturity. This is the route ROW Immigration advises on - recoverable, professionally managed, and the most popular post-2023 path.

How It Works
Real estate was removed in October 2023. Today the client makes a qualifying non-property investment - overwhelmingly a regulated investment fund - and receives a renewable permit with one of Europe's lowest presence requirements (~7 days/yr). The investment is held at least five years. AIMA processing backlog is the main friction: budget 12–18+ months to card.
